- Abstract
A nivel mundial, gran parte de la población posee algún tipo de Diabetes. Según la Organización Mundial de la Salud, la prevalencia de esta enfermedad ha ido en continuo aumento, pues desde el año 2014 pasó del 4,7% al 8,5% en la población adulta. Para evitar complicaciones que pueden llegar a ser fatales, resulta imperativo que los pacientes diabéticos lleven a cabo un monitoreo frecuente de su nivel de glucosa en sangre. Actualmente, la mayoría de los dispositivos utilizados para estimar la concentración de glucosa en sangre son invasivos, como por ejemplo el glucómetro GlucoQuick vital, con el cual la persona se ve obligada a punzarse el dedo para extraer una pequeña cantidad de sangre y así estimar la concentración de glucosa. Este método, además de doloroso, puede traer consigo riesgos de contraer infecciones y otras complicaciones relacionadas con la enfermedad. Ante esta problemática, surge la necesidad de monitorear los niveles de glucosa en sangre de forma no invasiva, lo cual incluye el uso de tecnologías como la espectroscopia de infrarrojo cercano (NIR) y el ultrasonido. No obstante, cada una de estas técnicas posee ciertas limitaciones a nivel de biocompatibilidad, sensibilidad y especificidad de las mediciones, profundidad de penetración, baja precisión, influencia de la temperatura, y costo económico de la instrumentación asociada. Con base en esto, el presente trabajo tiene por objetivo desarrollar un dispositivo para estimación no invasiva del nivel de glucosa en sangre que combine la espectroscopía NIR con el ultrasonido. Esto con el fin de compensar las debilidades que cada técnica posee por separado y determinar si es factible obtener mejoras a nivel de estimación de los niveles de glucosa en sangre. Los componentes a usar incluyen diodos luminiscentes (LED) de tipo NIR y sensores ultrasónicos de tipo HC-SR04 para Arduino. Una vez construido el dispositivo se llevarán a cabo una serie mediciones en sujetos de prueba, con y sin el uso de ultrasonido, resultados los cuales serán comparados utilizando como instrumento patrón, un glucómetro tradicional. Se espera que mediante la combinación de estas dos técnicas y la comprensión de los factores físicos y fisiológicos que pueden afectar la medición, se puedan obtener mejoras en cuanto a la fiabilidad y estabilidad de los resultados. Trabajos futuros podrían incluir la adaptación de un módulo de transmisión inalámbrica (WiFi, Bluetooth) y la visualización del nivel de glucosa en sangre desde un dispositivo móvil.
