- Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the socio-territorial sustainability of the creole maize crop (Zea mays L.) in a rural community. Design/methodology/approach: The study area was Acambay, State of Mexico. The questionnaires were applied to n=50 maize crop producers settled in agrarian communities and ejidos. The questionnaire was based on the Indicators of Sustainability of Husbandry Farms (IDEA: Indicateurs de Durabilité des Explotations Agricoles). The selection of each producer was carried out using a snowball sampling, choosing the first farmer randomly. Results: 90% of the producers reach the basic level of study, in communities such as Dateje and Dongú, all family members participate in growing maize crop (children and adults) and themselves are employed in temporal jobs such as harvesting with other farmers. The component quality of the products and the territory showed 8%, the employment and services component showed 19%, and the ethical and development component showed 25%. Limitations of the study/implications: The results presented are advances of one year, therefore, it is suggested to expand as much as possible the sample size in the following years. Findings/Conclusions: The Socio-territorial dimension had 52% sustainability, this results reflect the close relationship that exists between producers.
