- Title
Will anti-neuronal antibody biomarkers make neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus no longer a diagnosis of exclusion?

GORMAN, MARK
- Abstract
The author comments on a study which examined the use of anti-neuronal antibody biomarkers to diagnose neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE), by Dale and colleagues, published within the issue. The study, which included pediatric patients, found serum immunoglobulin G binding in the surface of cells with dopaminergic neuronal characteristics. The author notes that further research is needed to identify that antigen targeted by the autoantibodies of patients with NPSLE.
