CAUGHT UNAWARES: Virginia Medicaid Recovers Through Storytelling.
- Authors
Gordon, Chris
- Abstract
The Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) successfully addressed a financial crisis in its Medicaid program by increasing partner and stakeholder engagement and utilizing storytelling techniques. The DMAS implemented initiatives such as the Internal Financial Review Committee (IFRC) and the External Financial Review Council (EFRC) to promote transparency and collaboration in financial decision-making. The EFRC helped rebuild trust with the public and facilitated meaningful discussions on financial matters. Additionally, the DMAS used storytelling and digital tools, such as online dashboards, to improve transparency and engagement with stakeholders. This article highlights the transformative power of storytelling in government institutions.
