- Abstract
This article examines the quality of work and job insecurity in Colombia, using the pillars of decent work promoted by the International Labour Organization (ILO) since 1999. The results show that low work quality and job insecurity are economic and social concerns in Colombia. It is proposed to carry out reforms in labor regulation to improve the quality of employment. The results of different studies show that the quality of employment in Colombia is low, with minimal differences between men and women. According to the subjective employment quality index, the quality of work for urban wage earners and rural self-employed individuals is average, while it is low for rural wage earners and urban self-employed individuals. The cities of Manizales, Medellín, and Bogotá have better performance compared to Pasto and Cúcuta in terms of labor quality. The departments of Boyacá, Cauca, and Quindío have the highest indices of work quality. The data shows that there is a significant proportion of workers with low incomes, informal contracts, and lack of affiliation to social security in Colombia.
