- Abstract
Effectiveness and safety of 5-fluorouracil cream versus peeling with Jessner solution and 5-fluorouracil lotion in the treatment of skin cancerization field: a randomized clinical trial Skin cancerization field (SCF) comprehends an apparently normal tegument area around actinic keratosis (AK) but with pre-neoplastic, subclinical and multifocal histological alterations, which justifies the emergence of new neoplastic lesions or recurrence of previously completely excised lesions.[1] 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is an anti-metabolic drug that interferes in DNA synthesis through irreversible inactivation of thymidylate synthase, resulting in apoptosis of high proliferation cells, and is considered the gold standard for SFC treatment. The lower side effects may increase the adherence to treatment and, consequently, the effectiveness in treating AK and SCF.
