- Title
Investigator initiatives for academic trials: Dilemmas and difficulties.
- Authors
Pingali, Usharani
- Abstract
The article discusses the importance of academic clinical trials in India and the challenges faced in conducting them. Academic studies help bridge the gap between clinical trials and real-world scenarios, and they generate population-specific data that can inform precise guidelines and policies. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization has established rules and regulations for academic clinical trials in India. However, despite these efforts, the academic clinical trial landscape in India is still in its early stages. A multicenter study conducted among academicians revealed that while there is knowledge and awareness about academic clinical trials, there are still some ambiguities and challenges, particularly in obtaining approvals and funding. The article suggests the need for standardization of procedures, accreditation of ethics committees, and increased training for investigators to effectively conduct academic clinical trials.
