- Abstract
Background: Norway's national policies require health and social care workers in clinical practice and health educators to work evidencebased. A postgraduate degree programme in evidence-based practice was established at Bergen University College in 2004 to encourage the use of evidence in clinical practice and teaching at university colleges. Aim: To examine attitudes and behaviour related to evidence-based practice among former participants of a postgraduate degree programme in evidence-based practice. Methods: A survey, using the EBP Beliefs Scale and EBP Implementation Scale, was conducted among 291 former participants of a postgraduate degree programme in evidence-based practice winter 2010/2011. Results: Response rate was 75 %. Participants reported strong beliefs in evidence-based practice, but seldom engaged in activities related to evidence-based practice. Attitudes and implementation were correlated (r=0,47, p <0,001). Participants who reported taking part in evidencebased network groups were more positive (p =0,04) and implemented evidence-based practice more often (p<0,001) than those who did not participate in evidence-based network groups. Conclusion: Former participants in a postgraduate degree programme in evidence-based practice have positive attitudes towards evidencebased practice, although they seldom implement evidence-based practice
