- Abstract
Systemic hypertension is characterized by high and sustained levels of blood pressure, frequently associated with functional and / or structural changes of target organs and increased risk of cardiovascular events. In Brazil there was an increase in the number of cases and prevalence, and estimated that about a quarter of Brazil's population suffers from hypertension. The diagnosis is made according to the guidelines of the VI Brazilian Guidelines for Hypertension. The indications for treatment are well established, yet still professional difficulties encountram to address and control the evolution of the disease and the onset of complications. The treatment is based on two main axes: the change in lifestyle and pharmacological treatment. One of the key aspects in successful treatment and control of hypertension is patient adherence to both drug treatment, such as non-medication.
