- Title
VERBALIZED RESISTANCE: MUSIC AND MESSAGE IN MORRISON'S JAZZ.
- Authors
Dodhy, Shamaila
- Abstract
Inspired by the components of jazz music, Morrison's Jazz accentuates the struggle of liberation and impartiality by using its components that are antiphonic, improvisational and complicated. Just as a jazz musician improvises musical notes and chords, similarly in Jazz morphemes and syntax are arranged in new orders resulting in genuine, amazing and commendable sequel. Morrison addresses traumatisation perpetuated on oppressed people of the black community by incorporating clashing attributes of jazz music to defy race politics and power struggle; thus, Jazz becomes a specimen of resistance literature. Analysis is based on examples from the text, which are stylistically worked out and structurally examined.
