- Abstract
In former times, what is today acknowledged as "sustainable development", was regarded by avoiding the waste of resources, by adopting a humble lifestyle, in which the intake was in complete balance with the rate of natural recovery; some practices were common sense, and did not require rigid laws enforced by the authorities. Ethnographic tourism, as a form of sustainable tourism, can contribute in a favorable way not just to the valorification of the cultural heritage (material ans spiritual) existent in certain geographical areas, but mostly to maintaining and preserving the identity of the respective community. Among the methods in which ethnographic tourism can determine a sustainable development for Neamț county we briefly specify: the encouragement for manufacturing traditional products, attained by practicing traditional crafts and occupations, the promotion of ethno-cultural events and the conservation of traditional architecture of the tourist attractions. The present article seeks to evaluate the degree in which ethnographic tourism can be used as a viable way of maintaining a sustainable economical development of the Neamt County.
