The article presents a speech by Bruce Hevly, a professor of history of science and technology at the University of Washington, delivered on October 2013 in Richland, Washington, to mark the 70th anniversary of the arrival of the Manhattan Project, a project that produced the first nuclear weapons during World War II, in Washington. Topics covered include the significance of anniversaries, the history of Hanford, Washington and the Tri-Cities, and the growing tourist interest in nuclear sites.
