- Abstract
The article discusses the evolution of social roles of Cheyenne Indian women during nineteenth century intertribal warfare in the Great Plains region of the U.S. Topics explored include the auxiliary duties of these women in addition to the participation of some in direct combat, the bravery demonstrated by Northern Cheyenne woman Calf Trail Woman during the 1876 Battle of the Rosebud, and the membership of some Cheyenne women in soldier societies of their tribe.
