- Abstract
This article aims to discuss the influence of agricultural experimental stations in Brazil and Argentina, with regard to the adoption of new technologies and policies for the sugar sector. The focus is a theoretical perspective based on the History of Science, taking into account also the role of the circulation of knowledge and technologies between the two countries. In this study, we study two experimental stations that occupied a prominent space in the first half of the twentieth century, the Agricultural Experiment Station of Tucumán and the Experimental Station of Cana de Piracicaba, as well as the contribution of some of its directors such as José Vizioli and William Ernest Cross. In this sense, we intend to investigate the strengthening of experimental stations and issues that marked the sugar industry in Brazil and Argentina, such as overcoming mosaic virus, crises of sugar overproduction, studies on alcohol and dissemination of new knowledge and technologies in the sugarcane plantations.
