- Title
CARAVAGGIO'S REDNECKS.
- Authors
Herring, Scott
- Abstract
The article focuses on the photography of Michael Meads, whose New Orleans home and studio were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Meads' "Eastaboga" series shows "redneck" boys from the blue-collar town in Alabama in poses that go beyond homosocial bonding to homoerotica. His digital gallery exhibit of "Alabama Souvenirs" contains the queer perspective on the "beefcake" nude and metro gay culture. His "In the Studio" series depicts the South in the late 1990s. Some of the photographs included in this article are frontal nudes of Allen and Justin, as well as "Aaron: As a Caravaggio VI, 1994," and "Jason the Bunny: In Overalls II, 1997."
