- Abstract
The article presents a rhetorical analysis of a personal letter written by the bishop of the Manor-Pequea District Henry L. Heisey when he was 19 years old in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Discussion is given noting the various characteristics of the letter, citing its personal content, such as his discussion of salvation and his faith, its implications on his attitudes towards history, and the form and spelling of the writing itself. Comments are offered relating how such elements are manifestations of typical mid 19th-century Pennsylvanians.
