Earthquake in Peru.
- Abstract
The article discusses the impact of an earthquake that hit Peru on August 2007. The calamity hit the country with an intensity of 7.9 on the Richter scale and its epicenter was 60 kilometers from Pisco and 160 kilometers (km) south of Lima. It damages more than 20 provinces in southern Peru, including Ica, Lima and Huancavelica. According to the National Civil Defense Institute (INDECI), the death tool was 519, with 1,211 people injured and more than 300,000 affected. It not only brought damages to the lives of people but it also caused serious damage to the buildings and health services of the country. It revealed that fourteen facilities, including three hospitals were destroyed and 112 health facilities were damaged.
