- Authors
ATEŞ, Ahmet Emre
- Abstract
The aim of this article is to discuss the positive and negative dimensions of writing the art history in Turkey. Concerning the painting art history in Turkey, it is a well-known fact that there are general methodologies such as biographic, stylistic and formalistic ones which are commonly used in the making of the art history. However, there are other methodologies like sociological, feminist and iconographic one which are essential for the evolution of the aesthetics understanding. It can be argued that the lack of multidisciplinary approaches and methodologies may damage such understanding in Turkey. Therefore, our objective is to improve the interdisciplinary making of the art history in Turkey in the sense that both artists and historians should acknowledge the interaction between the different methodologies.
