The article presents a discussion of associate professor Bob Doneley at the University of Queensland during the Unusual Pets and Avian Veterinarians and Association of Avian Veterinarians Australasian Committee Combined Conference in September 2016 on the use of anaesthesia in exotic pets and ways to improve safety for the species. Topics include anaesthetic-related mortality, the challenges associated with caring for anaesthetic exotic pets, and the three stages of anaesthetic.
