The article discusses the legal aspects of single-color trademarks within the fashion industry as of 2013, and it mentions the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit's determination in the 2012 case Christian Louboutin S.A. v. Yves Saint Laurent America Inc. that fashion designer Christian Louboutin’s "Red Sole Mark" trademark is valid when the red color on a shoe's sole is used in contrast to the remainder of the shoe. American trade dress law is also examined.
