- Abstract
This article experimentally studies the top and bottom styles of CO2-O2 mixed blowing in a pyrometallurgical vanadium-extraction process using a flue gas analyzer and chemical analysis. It also presents the effect of the addition of CaCO3 using a x-ray diffractor, x-ray fluorescence and real-time temperature measurements. The results of flue gas analysis of 15 vol.% CO2 and 85 vol.% O2 mixed blowing indicate that CO2, as a gas coolant and a weak oxidant, can react with other elements in the hot metal and assist in improving the grade of the converter gas. It was also found that, compared with the bottom-blowing style, the top-blowing style for CO2-O2 gas mixture is more conducive to preventing the oxidation of carbon. Moreover, the result of the addition of CaCO3 indicates that it can help in cooling down the bath temperature of hot metal and can improve the dephosphorizing ability of vanadium-bearing slag.
