- Authors
KYUNGJIN BAE
- Abstract
The article addresses the debate on the accuracy of the monetary figures used by author Daniel Defoe in his 17th century book "Robinson Crusoe." Topics discussed include the literary scholar David Wallace Spielman arguing that the amount mentioned by Defoe for which the main character sold his Brazilian land cannot be true, given that such amount cannot be had during the period covered by the book, and the arguments presented by Defoe to defend his work as a novel based on historical facts.
