- Title
THE DEVIL'S NAME IN THE VERNON LYFF OF ADAM AND EUE AND THE OLD ENGLISH PROSE SOLOMON AND SATURN PATER NOSTER DIALOGUE.
- Authors
PELLE, STEPHEN
- Abstract
The article discusses the names used for the Devil in the Old English manuscripts known as the Vernon Manuscript and the "Prose Solomon and Saturn Pater Noster Dialogue". According to the author, the name Sachel used for the Devil in the Vernon manuscript may derive from the medieval diabolical name Sathael. It is suggested that the name Sathiel is also used in the "Prose Solomon and Saturn Pater Noster Dialogue" to denominate the Devil.
