- Title
UNNOTICED VARIANT READING IN Q1 LUCRECE, 1594.
- Authors
Cook, Hardy M.
- Abstract
In this article, the author reveals some of the flaws related to the copying process of the poem "The Rape of Lucrece," by dramatist William Shakespeare. The author wanted some of the details of the poetic style of Shakespeare for his edition of the poem "The Poems" for the Internet Shakespeare Editions. The author found a variant reading in line 1118, which appears to be unrecorded. In addition, he found that the British Library's Grenville 11178 copy contains eight readings of earlier states that have not yet been identified with it by previous editors. According to the author, subsequent editors recorded two unquestionable misprints that occur in all copies: "Paules Churh-yard" from the title page and :"sleep" from line 163 of the poem.
