- Abstract
This article reports on a research study that aimed to understand the meanings constructed by Psychology students regarding their experience of applied theater in education during the Personality Theories course at the Pontifical Bolivarian University in Medellin, Colombia. The study adopted a post-rationalist psychology as its theoretical framework and employed a qualitative approach with a narrative methodology. A mixed technique was designed, which included free narration and self-analysis based on dramaturgical/narrative elements, in order to recognize the experience of applied theater and identify the dramatic elements of the students' experience. The information was synthesized into matrices of qualitative analysis, which allowed for the identification of three emergent categories that account for the findings: learning, identity, and coexistence. It was found that the meanings were related to the learning experience, the questioning and configuration of one's own identity, and the encounter that entails a theatrical creation and its staging before an audience. It is concluded that post-rationalist psychology enables reflection on the human experience and that applied theater serves as a space for self-construction of the individual.
