- Abstract
The article examines the mediation of care work using the example of 24-hour care and emphasizes the increasing importance of this form of care due to the shortage of skilled workers and the rising need for care. There are between 300 and 400 placement agencies in the German market that contribute to making the care of older people accessible to market logic. The analysis of these agencies' websites shows that they promote care work through narratives of staying in one's own home and regaining independence. The characterization of caregivers is often based on gender and nationality attributions, while the physically demanding and emotional work remains invisible. On the one hand, the websites emphasize the invisibility of the work characteristics, on the other hand, the commodified form of the service.
