- Abstract
The article discusses research investigating the impact of sedimentation on wetland carbon (C) sequestration in an agricultural watershed in the U.S. The experiment was conducted at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA's) Beltsville Agricultural Research Center in Beltsville, Maryland. The objective of the study was to assess the effects of upland sedimentation on C dynamics within riparian wetlands. Researchers used samples of wetland soil and a combination of 137Cs (cesium), 210Pb (lead), and 14C as chronological markers to determine C sequestration and mineral deposition rates over the history of a wetland.
