NEW SOCIAL SECURITY SCHEME FOR LOCAL PUBLIC SERVANTS IN JAPAN.
- Abstract
The article provides information on the new social security scheme for local public servants in Japan which was adopted by the Japanese National Diet on September 8, 1962. The new scheme provides short and long-term benefits to public servants and the dependents in case of non-occupational sickness and injury, maternity, death, retirement, invalidity and natural disasters through mutual aid associations based on social insurance principles. The Act has distinguished categories of local public employees including employees of prefectural governments, public school teachers and employees of the Tokyo metropolitan government. The medical care provided by an association must include medical consultation, supply of medicines and medical treatment.
