- Abstract
The book "Media Studies and Media Didactics in Dialogue" by Till Dembeck and Jennifer Pavlik deals with the current state of media education in German language teaching. It discusses the changes that technological developments since the turn of the millennium have brought about in the everyday lives of young people as well as in teaching and learning. The publication is based on a conference at the University of Luxembourg, which aimed to intensify the exchange between media studies and media didactics. It examines systematic and historical findings of media studies that are relevant for media didactics, and vice versa, how media studies can provide research results for didactic preparation and school mediation. The book presents controversial approaches in media and German didactics and examines the mediation of media philological competence, aesthetic procedures in media transfer, and the challenges faced by media didactics. The initiative to intensify the exchange between media studies, media didactics, and teaching practice is considered highly commendable.
