- Abstract
The article reports on a policy statement adopted last year by the American Personnel and Guidance Association (APGA) on the International responsibility of its members. APGA's International Relations Committee was given the task of implementing the policy and coordinating all efforts of the Association in this area. One immediate development that brought dual objectives into sharp focus was the adoption this year by the U.S. Congress of Public Law 89-898. Known as the International Education Act, it provides for the strengthening of American educational resources for international studies and research. The Committee supported passage of the Act, helped to promote the APGA position in favor of its enactment, and established a task force to study the implication of the legislation for counselors. Although funds have yet to be authorized for the program, the Act provides for grants to institutions of higher education to support academic studies in international education. Some projects may be supported that are submitted by nonprofit agencies and organizations.
