- Abstract
The article discusses two cases of chronic refractory bacterial stromal keratitis in which the causative organism was detected by 16sr recombinant deoxyribonucleic acid (rDNA) sequencing from corneal tissue excised by keratoplasty or corneal biopsy. Sequencing revealed Stenotrophomonas maltophilia in a 53-year old man and the presence of bacterial DNA compatible with the Cellulosimicrobium sp. in a 60-year old man. The researchers note the potential of molecular identification to increase the chance of identifying a pathogen scattered inside the stroma.
