- Abstract
Objective: the issue of functional diversity will be addressed from historic-philosophic aspects and the evolution of the concept. Different models of intervention that contribute to the process of acceptance of functional biodiversity will be presented. It includes an analysis of fundamental concepts of intervention in human diversity. Results: human functional diversity concepts went through major changes throughout history. There is evidence of a drastic increase in the population with functional diversity. The OMS (2012) estimates that 600 million people worldwide are diagnosed with a disability, of which 80% (480 million) live in countries with limited economic resources. Conclusions: As human behavior professionals, psychologists have the social responsibility to develop models of intervention tailored to our population and culture. It is imperative to have a new generation of therapists that are sensitive to diversity and needs.
