- Abstract
The article focuses on labor market of nonunion construction industry workers. The effects of the nonunion labor force on construction in the United States is reviewed with some detail. Hiring practices of union and nonunion workers are discussed in detail, and a list is presented of the most popular methods, such as word of mouth, newspaper advertisements, and employment agencies. The need for skilled and honest labor is discussed, as well as flaws in certain hiring methods to obtain it. The role of unions in training workers, along with negotiating wages, is discussed.
