- Abstract
The foundations of radical Islamic discourse can be traced back to different understandings that emerged in the early periods of Islam. Since the proclamation of the Republic in Turkey, the repressive policies implemented to ensure social change and some religious understandings carried from outside accelerated the formation process of radical movements. These groups, which entered into a struggle not only in the intellectual sense, but also in the de facto sense, and united in opposing the state regime, started to emerge especially from the 1970s. In these periods of social turmoil, these movements, which argue that salvation can only be achieved by returning to Islamic rules, differ from each other in the methodology to be followed. In this study, it has been tried to reveal the prominent movements that were effective between 1970-2000 in Turkey and whose effects still continue and that can be considered as radical, within the principle of impartiality.
