- Abstract
The article explores Chinese intellectual history and the enduring influence of Confucian philosophy on academic scholarship. The author reflects on postmodern criticism aimed at dissolving the boundaries between history and literature. It is suggested that methods for the study and teaching of Chinese intellectual history should emphasize classical texts. Other topics include New Text Confucianism during the late Qing dynasty, Gongyang Confucianism, and the interdisciplinary aspects of Chinese thought and scholarship.
