- Abstract
This research contributes an updated characterization of roles and relationships within the family, starting from an applied research which analysed the meanings emerging from 10 interviews and 30 family sculptures, relating to 10 biparental families each with a child aged between 7 and 11 years. In congruence with the systemic approach attached to a postmodern perspective, qualitative methodology and an interpretative analysis of the content are used. The results show that the family is moving through a complex process of transformation with respect to the values of the past - represented by the patriarchal model - and those which it is desired to transmit today; a democratic attitude, equality in the distribution of functions, joint participation in caring for children, appreciating some incongruence between the analogical and digital levels, as between discourse and practice. The analysis shows the influence of naturalised biological explanations and of verbal and bodily socialization since infancy.
