- Abstract
Pulse is the dried seeds of legumes used in soups and other food recipes. If they breach the oral or intestinal mucosa, they cause a granulomatous inflammatory process with hyaline rings of pulse material. Pulse granulomas (PG) may be encountered in approximately 9% of resected segments of injured intestine, particularly in those with diverticular disease. Here we present 4 cases of PG. The clinical indications for resection were a polyp, a mass, a stricture and a perianal fistula. Two of the cases are unique in the literature in that they were resected from otherwise normal mucosa without previous history of colorectal disease.
