- Abstract
Influenced by traditional thinking, Tudor Arghezi creates a poetry of ELEMENTS: EARTH, WATER, FIRE and WIND. Human being is either situated in the center of the world or subordinated to the will of nature. Trees, as well as humans, are being created by MOTHER EARTH. The seed, buried deep into the EARTH, has to die first, then come to a new life. The cave, the tomb or man's home is a place for germination. Celestial WATER and FIRE help the earthly seed to grow. Searching for the beginnings, the poet, as a new CREATOR, finds the ELEMENTS. One or another is primordial, one of them, in excess, brings the deluge, the end of the world. The poet re-creates the world purifying the ELEMENTS through suffering.
