The article explores the concept of professional independence in context of the American legal profession. Topics discussed include effect of professional independence on access of legal services by the consumers, importance of professional independence in helping lawyers to assess their role in protecting the interest of third parties and the integrity of the justice system and discusses several issues related to professional independence such as founding of Legal Services Corporation.
