European developments. The EC directive on race discrimination: surprises, possibilities and limitations.
- Authors
GUILD, ELSPETH
- Abstract
The article discusses the European Commission Directive on Race Discrimination. The Directive covers discrimination in all aspects of public life, such as work, leisure and education. The aspects of the Directive that were tackled here include the concept of racial or ethnic origin, types of prohibited discrimination, actors covered and the burden of proof. It is noted that the inclusion of public authorities within the scope of the directive will allow the British government to extend the Race Relations Act 1976 (RRA) to public authorities.
