- Title
Macular Edema in Branch Retinal Vein Occlusion: Treat or Wait?
- Authors
Pizzimenti, Joseph J.; Pelino, Carlo J.
- Abstract
The article presents a study on the possible treatment for a large inferior temporal branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO). Acute findings in BRVO may include superficial and deep retinal hemorrhages, retinal edema and lipid exudation, while chronic findings may include retinal, optic nerve and blood vessel sheathing. Accordingly, a grid laser photocoagulation was mildly effective in the treatment of macular edema in the BRVO and that the study protocol was to wait three to four months after diagnosis. The author concludes that it is essential for the eye care professional to identify this condition and work with the internist or primary physician to obtain the appropriate physical examination.
