Be Quiet and Respectful, Here Patriots Rest.
- Authors
PARKER, MARY ANNE
- Abstract
The author reflects on the significance of national cemeteries. She singles out her visit to First Lieutenant Michael Joseph Blassie, an unknown soldier at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where she experienced the interpretation of sacrifice and of a nation's grief. She recalls the stark reminder of all the other men and women silently screaming about duty, honor, and sacrifice. She finds the interpretation at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery as innate and the most personal of nonpersonal.
