- Title
Television and the Afghan Culture Wars: Brought to you by Foreigners, Warlords, and Activists.
- Abstract
Television and the Afghan Culture Wars by Wazhmah Osman is a groundbreaking analysis of the contemporary media scene in Afghanistan and the various cultural and social issues that flow between the political realities of the country and its "media worlds" (Ginsburg et al. 2002). In writing this history, Osman carefully threads a more nuanced way to understand the "imperial gaze" and "development gaze" apparent in this timeframe of Afghanistan's history. To delve further into this conceptual reframing, Osman focuses Chapter 2 on a deeper analysis of foreign involvement in Afghanistan to assess its impact on contemporary dynamics in the country.
