- Title
The Hare PCL-R: Some issues concerning its use and misuse.
- Authors
Hare, Robert D.
- Abstract
The article discusses some issues pertaining to the use and misuse of the Hare Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R) and the Hare PCL-SV in the criminal justice system setting. The Hare PCL-R is described as a 20-item scale completed based on a semi-structured interview and file information. Underlying it is a two-factor structure, with the first factor composed of items that relate to the affective/interpersonal features of psychopathy like shallow emotions and lack of empathy, while the second factor are items liked to an impulsive, irresponsible, unstable lifestyle and with violation of social norms and expectations. The PCL-SV, on the other hand, is an effective tool for forensic and civil psychiatric patients.
