- Abstract
The present article analyzes journalistic and literary chronicles from the Colombian Caribbean region and their particularities, through the anthology compiled in "La nostalgia del Alcatraz" by the well renowned Caribbean writer and journalist Juan Gossaín. I will provide a theoretical and historical framework of precedents that validate the study of Caribbean chronicles, which I have named Croniqueñas, as a type of production whose characteristics are closely related to the popular culture representation of this geographical and cultural region. I will analyze how diverse phenomena and elements in nature help support the idea in the collective imaginary of the Caribbean region and its representation as a peaceful and exotic provincial area surrounded by the ocean, rivers, fruits, and diverse animals. Furthermore I will address the role of the chronicler's memory in this non-fiction genre on the hyphen between literature and journalism. I will elaborate around the idea of how nature, and its description loaded with nostalgia, are the channel to present some binaries such as city vs. rural areas, ideal past vs. chaotic present or the peace in the province against the violence in the city in the eighties in Colombia.
