- Title
Mitral valve prolapse causes arrhythmias from the papillary muscles: A stretch of the truth or reality?
- Authors
Markowitz, Steven M.
- Abstract
An editorial is presented which discusses association between mitral valve prolapse (MVP) and ventricular arrhythmias (VAs). Topics include information regarding sudden death and malignant arrhythmias in MVP patients; information on association between MVP and ectopic rhythms from papillary muscles; and role played by premature beats from papillary muscles in activating ventricular fibrillation. Other topics include abnormalities in the MVP patients with regard to myocardial fibrosis.
