- Abstract
We have taken two documents to rescue the figure of María de Mendoza, daughter of the second Count of Tendilla: a letter addressed to Felipe II to request protection and a memorandum addressed to the Council of the Indies asking for justice. Married to an encomendero in Mexico, she would be victim of her sons-in-law and the abandonment of the law after her husband's death. In this article we make public a series of documents coming from the General Archive of Notaries of Mexico City that have allowed us to check the veracity of her demands.
