- Abstract
Seventeen adult patients with nasal or paranasal sinus polyposis were studied in an attempt to determine whether there was any relationship between them and children with cystic fibrosis. The oyster gill cilia inhibition test, commonly used to detect the 'C.F. factor' in the serum of cystic fibrosis patients (homozygous) and their parents (heterozygous), was applied to these 17 patients. Fourteen of the 17 patients had the 'C.F. factor' in their serum. There would appear to be some relationship between cystic fibrosis and adult nasal and paranasal sinus polyposis; however, it is too early to draw any strong conclusions to this affect.
