- Abstract
This paper is a research about the resistance of Black women expressed through their afro hairstyles in Cali, Colombia. It explores how Black women from "Amafrocol" and "Entre Chontudas" organizations use their hairstyles as a political strategy for the recognition of their identities. In total, five members of the organizations were interviewed, four women and one man. With a qualitative case study design, through virtual ethnography and participant observation at the Gathering of Traditional Hairdressers and Contest of Hairstyles "Tejiendo Esperanzas" 2019, an analysis based on the theories of the politics of recognition, the politics of difference, and the postulates of Black feminisms was carried out. One of the main conclusions is that women find in their hairstyles a mechanism to make collective demands, and they develop political and economic strategies in order to gain power and autonomy.
