- Title
FUNDING COLLEGE USING PREPAID COLLEGE TUITION AND U.S. SAVINGS BONDS: A CASE STUDY.
- Authors
Dickens, Ross
- Abstract
Using unique data of a family's effort to funds its children's college education, this paper examines the results from the combination of a prepaid college tuition plan along with the purchase of U.S. Savings Bonds (EE- and I-Bonds). The family has done fairly well by utilizing its uncomplicated mixture. While the family could have created a theoretically more efficient investment portfolio, perhaps the most important lesson from the case is the simple truth that putting the money into whatever investment vehicle one chooses is the most important step to take to save for college.
